Lillie Francis Oglesby

Lillie Francis Oglesby, 85, of Millington, Tennessee passed on to glory on Friday, July 29, 2017, at Methodist North Hospital. She was born August 9, 1931 to Frankey and Autry Mae Haver Shepherd in Raleigh, Tennessee. Francis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Francis had a passion for people and never met a stranger. Her passion for people was only surpassed by her love for her Lord and all the Saints at Fellowship Baptist Church, Quito Tennessee. Francis leaves behind her children, Jeanne (Don) Starnes, Michael (Felicia) McAlpin, Buck (Yvonne) McAlpin, Ginger (Jeff) Nallie, Dotty (Barry) Davis, Debbie (John) Atkins; 18 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren; sisters, Marie Jacobs and Joyce Cooper. She was preceded in death by husbands, Carl McAlpin, Jim Oglesby; son, Steve McAlpin, mother and father; four brothers; three sisters. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at 4:00 PM, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Quito, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.

John D. Rast, 90, of Millington, TN passed away July 25, 2017. He was retired from Kimberly Clark Corp.; served in the US Army during WWII; was a member of Shelby Forest Baptist Church and VFW Post 7175. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Mae Rast and his parents, W.S. and Floy Rast. He is survived by his daughter, Belinda (Scott Cursey) Ayala of Millington, TN; sons, Larry Rast of Bartlett, TN, Steve Rast of Millington, TN, and Ray (Michele) Chester of Omaha, NE; sisters, Peggy McKinnis of Millington, TN and Willa Mae Crump of Delaware; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. The family will received friends Friday (July 28) from 1:00PM until the service at 2:00PM at Shelby Forest Baptist Church. Interment to follow in West Union Cemetery. The family asks any memorials be made to Shelby Forest Baptist Church.

Charles B. "Chuck" Smith, III a construction contractor of Millington, TN passed away July 22, 2017. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Smith and a brother, Mike Wilkins. He is survived by his daughters, Mallory Dooley and Abigail Smith both of Millington, TN; sons, Jesse Smith of Millington, TN and Jacob Smith of Honolulu, HI; sisters, Berceda Beam of Boulder, CO and Debbie Pearl of Pleasantville; grandchildren, Janie, Ellie, Levi, and Ellis.  The family will receive friends at a catered reception Thursday (July 27) from 5pm - 7pm at the Millington Chapel.

Charles H. “Charlie” Cox, 72, retired Detective for Memphis Police Department (18 years), died July 12, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. There will be a celebration of life service at a later date. Mr. Cox was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army, 30 years, having served in Vietnam and life member of VFW, where he served as Past Post Commander. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He leaves his wife, Pat Cox; one daughter, four sons; his service dog with Police Department “Sierra”; three sisters, two brothers, 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mary Louise “Teenie” Childress, 79, retired Secretary for Davis Printing, died July 11, 2017 at her residence. The Family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m., Saturday, July 15, with Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., all at First Baptist Church Millington. Interment in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. Mrs. Childress was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught a ladies Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Childress, her parents, James Ernest and Mildred Crouch Loft, two sisters, Alma Sue Long and Melba Payne and one brother, Richard Loft. She leaves two sons, Ken Childress, Jr. (Laura) and Greg Childress (Carla); two sisters, Pat Pittman and Betty Court; two brothers, Sonny Loft and Phil Loft; five grandchildren, Tray, Brittany, Tiffany, Austin and Madison; and one great-grandchild, Lennon Grace.
