Kenneth Wayne Raines

veteran-flagKenneth Wayne Raines, 69, of Millington passed away May 24, 2017. Mr. Raines was a retired Shipping Manager for Kimberly Clark, graduate of Frayser High School, served in the US Navy, was an avid coon hunter, caregiver to many and had a great love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward (Bill) Evans Raines and Myrtle Raines Beard; and step-dad, Ed Beard; sister, Ruby Beard and brother, James Beard.

Mr. Raines is survived by his fiancé, Charlene Littles; daughters, Lisa M. Carson, (Kit Carson) and Angie Rollins (Ryan Rollins) and their mother, Patricia Walls; sisters, Linda Taylor, Diane Raines Ruskin, and Mary Beard Lester; brothers, Eddie Beard, and Buford Beard; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many family members and friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 30 from 9:00 am until the service time at 11:00 am at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel. Interment to follow in West TN Veterans Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Eckenrode Hale

Elizabeth "'Betty' Ann Eckenrode Hale, 83, of Millington, died Thursday, May 11, 2017, at her home. Betty was born September 19, 1933 in Westminster, MD to the late Charles Donald and Marion Alice (Latshaw) Eckenrode. She was a valedictorian graduate of St. John's Catholic High School in Westminster. She met Walter D. Hale, a Georgia native, in Westminster, and the two were married in Alexandria, VA. They then began a 22-year Marine Corps life, which took them to Quantico, VA; Garden Grove, CA; and Cherry Point, NC. In November 1966, they brought their 9 children (at that time) to Millington, where Betty ardently began volunteering.

A natural-born leader, she had a talent for recognizing and meeting needs in the community, from forming organizations to sharing her famous cooking. She founded both the Millington Central High School's PTA and Millington's Community Day, as well as spearheaded many fundraisers within her various service organizations. She won a United Way Volunteer of the Year award in 1989 for cooking meals for the residents of Dismas House, a halfway house in Memphis. A large part of her volunteer work centered on her family's schools and interests. She was an active participant in her children and grandchildren's activities through both her attendance and her volunteerism. She served as a Boy Scout Den Mother; a member of the Band Boosters at Millington Middle and Millington Central High School; and a member of the PTAs at Millington South, Millington Middle, and Millington Central High School for many years.

Betty is survived by her 2 daughters, Barbara Hale (Steve Brown) of Memphis and Beth Hill (Andy) of Cordova, MD; 5 sons, Charles (Janice) of Collierville, Walter (Tricia), David (Darla), Louis (Mary) of Millington, and Tom (Carol) of Bartlett; daughter-in-law, Nina of Munford; sister, Jane McCullough (George) of Chester, MD; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 4 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, daughter Rebecca, 3 sons, Bill, Robert, and Brian; 4 grandchildren, Ricky , Bobby, Andy, and Joshua, and 2 sisters, Kathleen Lippy and Martha Thom.

A Rosary Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Munford Funeral Home (Millington Chapel), followed by a visitation from 6-9 p.m.

There will be a funeral mass at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at St. William Catholic Church in Millington. Burial will be at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to: St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

William Earl “Billy” Carver (Rock N Roll)

William Earl “Billy” Carver, Rock N Roll, to those who knew and loved him, was born in Millington, TN, on July 4, 1957. For over 20 years, he worked as a loan officer at American Mortgage Services in Millington. He met and married the love of his life, Allison David Carver, on Beale Street in Memphis, TN. They were married on November 14, 1987. His beautiful life will forever be cherished by his wife, children, and family: wife, Allison David Carver of Covington, TN; daughters, Ashley Carver of Memphis, TN, and Mikki Carver of Drummonds, TN, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Adney of Drummonds, TN; sister, Sally Ann Carver of Munford, TN; brothers, Bobby Carver of Bartlett, TN, Paul Carver of Munford, TN, Eddie Carver of Arlington, TN, Timmy Carver of Munford, TN, and Tommy Carver of Covington, TN. He died at Regional One on May 7, 2017. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, William Robert Carver and Faye Wray Carver, and brother, Jimmy Carver.  The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Thursday, May 11, with a service held Friday, May 12, 2017 at 2:00pm at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel, 7450 Raleigh Millington Rd. Interment to follow in Leighs Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel has charge.

Joseph G. Wofford

Joseph G. Wofford, 80, of Millington, TN  passed away  May 7, 2017. He was born June 23, 1936 in Brinkley, AR to the late H.E. and Adeline Wofford. He retired from the US Navy after serving 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Jane Wofford; sister, Mary Davi of Pleasanton, CA; brother, Edward Wofford of Nampa, ID; nine nephews; one niece; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law; and fur-children, Sweetie and Littlebit. The family will receive friends at a catered reception Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 5:00 pm – 8:00pm with a service Wednesday at 11:00am at the Millington Chapel. Interment is private.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the West Tennessee Veterans Home (www.veterans-home.com) or the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org).

Leon Horton, Jr.

Leon Horton Jr., 73, of Memphis, TN died May 4.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Cristella Horton and sister, Barbara Smith.  He is survived by his daughter, Carol Jessee; son, James L. Horton; sisters, Janet Roberts and Linda Lawrence; brother, Danny L. Horton; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends  Monday, May 8 from 12:00 pm  until the service at 2:00 pm at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel. Interment to follow in  Poplar Grove Cemetery in Drummonds, Tennessee.
