Helen Elizabeth "Sister" Caulfield Carter Simpson

Helen Elizabeth "Sister" Caulfield Carter Simpson, 96, passed away November 29, 2016 in Millington, TN. Originally from Water Valley, MS, she was preceded in death by husbands, Ira Scott Carter and Eugene Simpson, Sr. and daughter, Helen Scott Carter Melton. She is survived by her son, Doug Carter (Susan); stepsons, Eugene Simpson, Jr. (Kathy) and David Simpson; grandchildren, Lydia Melton, Ryan Carter (Kelly), Alicia Reed (Shannon); four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Van Sickler McWhorter

Dorothy Van Sickler McWhorter, 86, formerly of Millington, TN passed away on November 28, 2016, at the Quail Ridge Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Bartlett, TN. She was born May 21, 1930 in Toronto, Ontario, the daughter of Jean and James Van Sickler. In the early 50's Dorothy came to the United States to work as a nurse. She was the Operating Room RN supervisor in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Later she met the Rev. Clifford McWhorter, and they married in 1957. Dorothy was very talented, as she was a skilled Scottish Sword dancer and competed in various pageants, one of which she was crowned Miss Toronto.  She also loved the bagpipes and took very seriously her profession as a nurse. When Dorothy and Clifford moved to Millington, TN she became an OR Nurse at the now Regional One Medical Center. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Clifford Eldred McWhorter, formerly of Millington and now of Bartlett, TN; two sons, Marshall McWhorter (Kathryn) of Arlington, TN and Blake McWhorter (Kerry) of Kansas City, MO; her sister, Joy Hughes (Eric) of Toronto, Canada; and 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday, (Nov 30) from 5pm-7pm with a service Thursday, (Dec 1) at 9:30am both at St. John Orthodox Church. Interment will be in West TN Veterans Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John Orthodox Church at 1663 Tutwiler Avenue Memphis, TN 38107.

George "Bobby" Childress

George “Bobby” Childress, 62, of Munford, TN, passed away on November 21, 2016. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with the Southern Cruisers Riding Club, woodworking, and hunting and fishing. Mr. Childress is survived by his wife, Debbie Childress; daughter, Shannon (David) Ballard of Smyrna, TN; son, Michael (Dominique) Childress of Drummonds, TN; sisters, Jeanie Lucy of Pleasant Plains, AR and Melba Dease of Millington, TN; brother, Ricky Childress of Sardis, MS; three grandchildren, McKayla Oakley, Reagan Ballard, and Weston Childress. The family will receive friends at a catered reception Friday from 5pm-8pm with a service Saturday at 11am at the Millington Chapel. Interment to follow in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery.

Helen Ruth Maness, 84, passed away on November 15, 2016. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids and working in her flower beds. Mrs. Maness was preceded in death by her husband, Max B. Maness. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Thomas of Millington, TN; son, Billy Max Maness of Millington, TN; sisters, Erma Montgomery and Juanita Smith both of Millington, TN; brothers, Herman Oglesby and J.D. Oglesby both of Millington, TN; three grandchildren, Billy Wayne Thomas, Amanda Lynn Nelson, and Jennifer Lea Thompson; six step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at a catered reception on Saturday from 10am until the service at 11am at the Millington Chapel. Interment to follow in West Union Cemetery.

Juanita Carol Larson, 57, of Millington, TN passed away November 10, 2016. The family will receive friends Tuesday (Nov 15) from 10am – 11am at Embury Methodist Church. A graveside service will follow at 11:00am in Embury Methodist Church Cemetery. She is survived by her sons, Jason William Pegg and Jeffery Lee Gillia; parents, William R. and Charlotte Joshlin; four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter David Joshlin.
