Ronald Lane Gammon

RONALD LANE GAMMON, 70, of Millington, died December 27, 2014 at home. Mr. Gammon was a retired Auctioneer and owner of Gammon’s Auction. He served in the U.S. Navy, was an elder and member of West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was an avid collector of cast iron. The family will receive friends at a catered reception from 5-8 p.m.. Monday, December 29 and service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, both at Millington Chapel. Interment will be in West Union Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Myrna Gammon; daughters, Denise Pannell (John), Carolyn Whitney (Tracy), Emma Martin (Joey); sons, David Gammon (Karen), Arlan Gammon (Katie), Seth Gammon (Rachel); sisters, Carolyn Ivy, Patricia Cornelius, Mary Alice Malone; brothers, Jack Gammon, Joe Gammon, Bob Gammon; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Barnhardt and Arlene Gammon and one brother, Jim Gammon. Memorials may be made to Confidential Care for women, Covington, TN.

Doris Rhea Smith

DORIS RHEA SMITH, 84, of Millington, died December 26, 2014. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and member of Crosspointe Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at a catered reception from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, December 28 and service will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 29, both at Millington Chapel. Burial will be in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was the widow of Virgil L. Smith. She leaves one daughter Carol Ann Brinley (Terry), one son, Garry Smith (Gail); one sister, Phyllis Ann Levens (Terry); several nieces and nephews; six grandchildren, Christy Minton, Cassie Gibbons, Catherine Brinley, Tyler Brinley, Erica Reed, Evan Smith and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Crosspointe Baptist Church.

Betty Boswell Phillip

Betty Boswell Phillip, passed away on December 24, 2014 at Methodist North Hospital after a long illness. She is the former Betty C. Boswell of Kerrville/Millington area. She attended Millington Central High School and then Graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She married Raymond Phillip of Poughkeepsie and taught at Rhinebeck Elementary school. Mr. Phillip joined the RCA Service Co. and the couple moved to Cape Canaveral, Fla., where he worked in the space program.  He rejoined IBM and they moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland until they retired to Memphis in 1987. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Raymond J. Phillip; by her loving daughter, Sarah Hanson of Henderson, TN; and by her loving son, Raymond Phillip of Olney, Maryland; and five grandchildren. The family will receive friends at a catered reception Monday, December 29 from 12 - 2 pm at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel.

Herbert Stanley (Stan) Forbes

Herbert Stanley Forbes (Stan)
A true gentleman and World War II veteran, Stan, fondly known as Gramps to his
grandchildren, went to be with the Lord and join his sweet wife, Mary.  Born to Colie
and Iona Moore Forbes in Atoka in Tipton County, Tennessee, on September 1, 1917, he
was one of five children, including brothers, Casey Forbes and Neal Forbes (both
deceased) and two sisters, Virginia Jordan and Thelma Duke.  He was married in 1939
to Jackie Rushing Forbes, who died in 1980. He then married Mary Torrey Forbes in
1981 until her passing in 2012. His extended family included four stepchildren:
Creighton E.Torrey, Dolores Graham, Dawn Greer Lester (deceased), and Mary Beth
Hernandez. He also leaves seven grandchildren -- Anne Marie Fiorino, Brandi Bertram,
Dax Torrey, Sonia Torrey, Shane Greer, Daniel Hernandez, and Caitlin Laney -- seven
great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and
their children. Gramps attended West Tennessee State Teacher’s College (known now as
the University of Memphis) in 1936 and played football there. Later, he enlisted in
the United States Army on August 24, 1943, and marched all over Europe with General
Patton’s Third Army being awarded a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged March
10, 1946, and promptly began a career in electrical work, ultimately having retired
from MLGW before working another twenty years for National Electric Company. He was
also very active in the community, serving as a member of Grimes Memorial Methodist
Church from 1951 to present, as a Mason,and as a Shriner. And on most Saturdays in
the fall, he could be found either listening to or watching his beloved Tennessee
Vols play football. Gramps will be truly missed by his loved ones. He was a true
gentleman and role model. Visitation will be Saturday, December 27, 2014 at
Memorial Park Funeral Home from 12:00 until the service at 1:00 pm. Interment to
follow at MemorialPark .

Eugenia Barnes Longmire

EUGENIA BARNES LONGMIRE, 82, of Millington, died December 12, 2014. She was a
retired school teacher for Shelby County Schools, a member of First United Methodist
Church Millington, volunteer at Wesley Nursing Home and Theatre Memphis. The family
will receive friends from 12-2 p.m.. Monday, December 15 at Millington Chapel,
followed by graveside service at 3 p.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Clifford Longmire. She leaves her son, Terry Longmire
(Cynthia); one grandchild, Alexandria Leigh Longmire. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the American Cancer Society.
