Kathy Jo Trippe

Marks, MS

Mrs. Kathy Jo Hutcherson Trippe, age 67, left her earthly home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 13, 2014 in Tupelo, MS. Family will receive friends at a catered reception, Tuesday evening, July 15, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Kimbro  Funeral Home in Marks, MS.  A Service of Celebration will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Marks, MS.  Dr. Laurie Jones, Rev. Will Rambo and Rev. James Tidwell will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness, MS at 4:00 pm.

Mrs. Trippe was born in Greenville, MS, at King’s Daughters Hospital on August 27, 1946, to James and Martha Hutcherson. She grew up in Indianola, MS where she graduated from Indianola High School in 1964. She continued her education at Mississippi University for Women where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Music. On June 3, 1968, she married the love of her life, George Herring Trippe, Jr. They made their home in Marks, MS.

She taught music for 37 years:  24 years at Delta Academy and 13 years at Merritt Middle School. Her passion for music was shown as she led music, as an interim choir director, at First Baptist Church, Marks, MS. She taught children to love music, and her summers were filled with teaching them to swim. The many music and swimming lessons she taught allowed her to share her love for life and Jesus Christ with multitudes of students and their families. Later in life, she returned to school to receive her Master’s in Music Education at Delta State University.  She and George were active members of First Baptist Church of Marks. Her love for the Lord shown through as she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and attended several mission trips. Her love for the Lord also shown through as she taught students to appreciate music. The encouragement she offered in the classroom reached beyond the school environment to life lessons students carried with them. She was recently an active member of First United Methodist Church of Indianola - the church of her childhood.

Survivors include her daughters; Salle Belle (Philip) Howell of Tupelo, MS, Mary Margaret (Larry) Calvert of Marks, MS, her father James (Ferne) Hutcherson of Indianola, MS, her brother James (Jeanne) Hutcherson, Jr. of McComb, MS, and six grandchildren, Mary Katherine, Sarah, Trippe and Wynn Howell of Tupelo, MS, Katie Grace and George Calvert of Marks, MS. Survivors also include Ferne’s daughters, Linda (Joel) Hill of Greenville, MS, Helen Ruth (Joe) Hendon of Canton, MS, her in-laws, Kathryn Ann (David) Marlow of Ruleville, MS, Ed Pratt (Donna) Trippe of Inverness, MS, Billy (Karen) Trippe of Pink Hill, NC and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, George H. Trippe, Jr., her mother Martha Herring Hutcherson, her mother and father-in-law Sarah Frances Trippe and George H. Trippe, Sr.

Mrs. Katherine "Kate" Purdy

Mrs. Katherine "Kate" Purdy, age 101 , passed away on Sunday June 22, 2014 in Ruleville, MS. Family will receive friends at Lambert United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm with the funeral service to follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be held at Lambert Cemetery.

Mrs. Purdy was retired from Garan MFG in Lambert, MS and a member of Lambert United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Claude "Buddy" Purdy, son Charles "Bubba" Purdy, granddaughters Patricia Udo & Debbie Hardy; great grandson Clifford Udo and great granddaughter Shelby Southeard. Mrs. Purdy is survived by her daughters Mayford (Gerald) Escue of Oakland CA, Margie (Durwood) Bruce of Dothan AL, Shelby (Pete) Williams of Spring City, TN and Sissy Gentry of Enid, MS; son Bill (Frankie) Purdy of Courtland, MS; eighteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and eighteen great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sylbra Cathern Shaffer Smith

Mrs. Sylbra Shaffer Smith, age 88 , passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 in Southaven MS. Interment will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clarksdale, MS.

Mrs Smith was a retired Postal Clerk of the Vance Post Office; a member, Sunday School Teacher and Director of the WMU at Walnut Baptist Church; a school teacher at Walnut School of  Quitman Co.; a member of Marks Homemakers Club and a volunteer at Quitman Co. Nursing Home. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Osie & Lillian  Shaffer, brothers James Allen & Bill Shaffer and sister Ruth Henley. She is survived by her husband William Smith of Senatobia, MS; daughters Bonnie Ellen Joyner of Cordova, TN, Barbara (Owen) Riddick of Oxford, MS, Beverly (JB) Bond of Stillwater, OK, Betty (Billy) Bowie of Louisville, MS and Beryl (Allen) Wiggs of Marks, MS; brother Leslie (Patsy) Benton Shaffer of Petal, MS; six grandchildren, Rodney (Carolyn) Bowie of Little Rock, AR, Barkley (Sam) Neal of Cordova, TN, Katherine Riddick of Atlanta GA, Rebecca (Blake) McCreary of Cleveland MS, Katherine (Ryan) Williams of Stillwater, OK, Sarah (Trevor) Davenport of Stillwater OK and one great granddaughter Vivian Rebecca Bowie of Little Rock, AR.

Mrs. Bobbie Nell Tutor Pettit

Mrs. Bobbie Nell Tutor Pettit, age 81, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014 in Oxford, Ms. The family will receive friends at a catered reception Sunday, June 15, 2014, from 1:30 pm unti 3:00 pm. Mrs. Pettit was a homemaker and a member of Robbs Baptist Church in Pontotoc MS. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Cordell, daughter-in-law, Jean Pettit, and son-n-law Terry Cordell. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Dossie Pettit of Lambert, MS, daughters, Cathy (Russell) Pettit of Batesville, MS, Kaye Pettit Carpenter of Charleston, MS, and sons Rick (Judy) Pettit of Oxford, MS; Duane Pettit of Crowder, MS; Mike (Wanda) Pettit of Crowder, MS, Steve (Rea) Pettit of Batesville, MS; sisters Pat (Charlie) Baker of Courtland, MS and Ruby Jean Oswalt of Pontotoc, MS;  twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Ms. Sandra Biffle

Marks, MS

Ms. Sandra Biffle, age 67, passed away on Saturday, June 07, 2014 in Clarksdale MS. Family will receive friends at a catered reception Tuesday June 10, 2014, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Marks on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 10:00 am with interment to follow at Marks Cemetery.

Ms. Biffle worked for over thirty years for the Quitman County Superintendent of Education. She also worked as an Administrative Secretary at Quitman County Hospital and was an avid Ole Miss fan.

Ms Biffle is survived by her sons, Dennis (Sara) Biffle of Batesville, MS and  Todd Biffle of Southaven, MS; cousins Corky Barron of Marks MS and Baxter (Bette) McCorkle of  Plattville AL,  five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Carlisle Pund and cousin Henry McCorkle.

Mr. Bobby L. Crawford Sr.

Mr. Bobby Lee. Crawford Sr., age 73, passed away on Saturday, June 07, 2014 in Marks, MS. Family will recieve friends at Lambert United Methodist Church on Monday, June 09, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.. Interment will be held at Lambert Cemetery.

Mr. Crawford was born on February 11, 1941 in Marvell, AR. One of seven children in the home of Lester Thomas and Annie Belle Crawford, he attended school at Marvell High. Upon graduation, he joined the Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge in May of 1966. Bobby was in the land clearing business and on June 08, 1962, he and Jane Wells were married. They lived in West Helena, AR for five months before moving to Lambert, MS to further pursue his business.  When they first moved to Mississippi, Mr Crawford cleared land all around the Mississippi River. After retiring, he was a supervisor for Farrell Paving Company in Memphis, TN. In his spare time, Mr Crawford enjoyed hunting, fishing and having cookouts.

Mr Crawford is  survived by his loving wife of  52 years, Jane Wells Crawford of  Lambert, MS, daughter Stephanie (Mack) Ely of Vance, MS; sons Brad (Frances) Crawford of Teasdale, MS, James Crawford of Crowder, MS, Bobby Lee Crawford Jr. of Bartlett, TN, sisters Joy Jones of Memphis, TN, Mary Bradshaw of Oklahoma City, OK; sister in law Nora Crawford of Marks, MS;  grandchildren Clint Crawford of Charleston, MS, Britton Crawford of Enid, MS, Blair Crawford Nissen of Jackson, MS, Sydney Crawford Hampton of Johnson City, TN, Ashely Ely of Vance, MS; great grandchildren Analyn Crawford of Charleston, MS and Rivers & Tucker Mack Nissen of Jackson, MS and a host of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester  and Annie Crawford and four brothers, Jimmy Crawford, Billy Crawford, W.A. Crawford and Jack Crawford.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Black of Marks, MS; daughter Shavanna (Tandy) Black Aldridge of Florence, AL; son Joey (Joey) Black of Batesville MS; mother Ernestine Black  of Lambert MS; sisters Debbie (Johnny) Johns of Lambert, MS & Pat (Larry) Maddox of Florien, LA, brother David Black of Lambert, MS and three grandchildren; Shelby Black & Drake Black of Batesville, MS  and  Hunter Aldridge of Florence, AL.
